Party of Five

Party of Five

When I found out we were going to be a family of five, I just knew I would be viewed as ghetto when people saw three toddler boys trailing behind me as we traveled throughout our city. Maybe it’s because I was raised in the hood and the stereotype was “if you see a young woman with more than two babies you assume she is trying to beat the system and force tax payers to take care of her children.” I know you may find this ridiculous, but the sense of embarrassment I felt was real. I thought I was pregnant with our second child, not twins! What can I say? Sometimes the foolishness we hear from...

The One Flaw Of Having ALL Boys…

I always said that if I have children I only want boys, and boy was God listening! Now as I look at my three sons and try to imagine what their future holds, I realize the one flaw of not having a daughter. I will never experience the joy of helping my daughter find her fairytale dress for her storybook wedding. I will not be my daughter’s first call after she feels my grandchild move in her womb for the first time. These are intimate moments that are traditionally shared between a mother and her daughter. It has now hit me that when my sons find the woman they choose to spend the rest...

Don’t Make A Mommy Angry…

I use to think that my mother was a bit psychotic when it came to defending her children. There were times when we were afraid to tell her that someone did something to us because we knew when our mother got started there was no stopping her–she was the female Hulk. But, now that I’m a mother I have a greater respect for my mother’s love. To this day I remember when I realized just how much she loved me. It was the summer before entering high school. I was riding my bike with my best friend, while my little brother and his buddies played with their trucks and raced up and down the...

Life Is All One FREAKING Test!

No matter how much you plan the unexpected will happen. You lay your clothes out for work the night before just to spend a hour the next morning trying to find your bra. Before leaving the house, you save an address in your phone’s GPS just to spend the next hour lost, in the car, trying to locate a signal; you pick out the perfect outfit for your son, rush him to his first preschool open-house and as soon as you park the car he throws-up all over his clothes and car seat. It never freaking fails! It’s like one of my favorite Alanis Morissette songs, “Ironic”.  “…An old man turned...

Gross & Greedy

My son will pass gas and keep going about his business. I go to change his diaper and before I have an opportunity to wipe him clean, he’s already pulling at his “unmentionables” waiting to hear me say, “Ewww, S Dot! Stop touching it!” And now he has figured out that snot forms when he cries, so he will spend 10 minutes blowing it out of his nose and feeling it ooze onto his lips. DISGUSTING! I was talking to my girlfriend about it this morning and she had me cracking up, “Oh guuurl that’s nothing! You just wait until he’s older. Then you’ll see how gross little boys can really...
